Blithe Spirit
tells the story of novelist Charles Condomine and his second wife Ruth as they
are literally haunted by a past relationship when an
eccentric medium manages to conjure up the ghost of Charles's neurotic first
wife, Elvira, at a séance. They have assumed the preposterous Madame Arcati is
a fraud who will simply entertain their dinner guests with a little chicanery
and supply Charles with material for his forthcoming novel. But when Elvira
appears, visible only to Charles, and is determined to sabotage his current
marriage, life - and the afterlife - begin to get complicated in this
laugh-out-loud comedy. So don’t miss out on our
cheap theatre tickets offer!
The show will star legendary
English actress Alison Steadman OBE as Madame Arcati. Steadman has performed on
radio, television, film and the stage with a long list of credits to her name.
She has appeared in many films, including
Shirley
Valentine,
Confetti,
Wilt,
Life Is Sweet and
Topsy Turvy.
Her television work includes
Fat Friends,
Let Them Eat Cake,

Pride & Prejudice (as
Mrs.
Bennet). From 2007 to 2010 she appeared in the BBC comedy

Pamela.
Blithe Spirit also stars Ruthie
Henshall, a veteran of the stage. Since her West End debut in 1987 in a
production of
Cats (as
Grizabella), Ruthie has achieved what
many can only dream of purely through her determination and sheer talent. Her
onstage credits include
Miss Saigon,
Annie,
Les Miserables (as
Fantine),
Oliver! (as
Nancy),
The Vagina Monologues,
The Woman In White and possibly most
famously in
Chicago as
Roxie Hart, a role she most recently
played in the Broadway company of the smash hit musical.
